Mod Fashion Evolution
Fashion is evolutionary, not revolutionary. The cyclical nature of the fashion industry is expressed through the evolution of garments and silhouettes across time periods. One dramatic style shift occurred during the transformation of the picturesque 1950’s conservative housewife into the individualistic empowered sleek, geometric mod styles of the 1960’s. Throughout the 1960’s, women’s roles began to shift as they shied away from the submissive, acceptable nature engrained in their minds throughout the 50’s and began blossoming into sophisticated, male inspired clothing. This disassociation from feminine silhouettes allowed women to visually become one with men by decreasing their admiration for the once form fitting garments. Although some people tend to alienate themselves from fashion trends, clothing never fails to express political, social, and economic trials occurring within a time frame. The mod styling of the 1960’s revolutionized the value of physical beauty through social and style icons, morphing fashion’s societal influence.
